Refugee Week 2012 – June 18th-24th

This year’s theme for Refugee Week is ‘Spirit’ and mIN will be celebrating with two events as well as participating with workshops and performances at other events across Glasgow.

mIN’s events for Refugee Week 2012:

On Tuesday 19th June, 5.30-8.30pm, our community event at 35 Avenuepark Street – Strength and DiversitymIN’s Voices Group invite you to celebrate the contribution refugees and asylum seekers are making to Scottish society and learn more about issues affecting their lives, including information stalls, workshops, a photography exhibition, creative writing displays, entertainment and food. This event is open to all.

On Saturday 23rd June at 8pm, a triple bill of music and dance at the Tron Theatre –

Tiny Songbirds, presented by Albscott, is a collection of lullaby songs from around the world -from Kosova to Venezuela, Scotland to China, gathered from family and friends of the Albanian-Scottish association and the Tiny Songbirds music-making project.

Lullaby Spirit, presented by Albscott and Maryhill Integration Network, is choreographed by Natasha Gilmore (Barrowland Ballet), Lullaby Spirit is inspired by and features lullabies from Tiny Songbirds. Through music, dance and song, this international group explore what it takes to have a good night’s sleep in a hypnotic piece reflecting issues of safety, family, love and peace.

Samba Ya Bamba

Samba Ya Bamba conclude the evening with a vibrant Samba finale.

Spirit – A Collaberative Arts Project. An exhibition of photography and digital imaging on display in the foyer of the Trongate 103 , including photographs of members of the mIN Music & Theatre Production group, International Fashion Show models and Oasis Women’s group from 8th June to 22nd July.

Wish Tree Exhibition at The Burrell CollectionAn exhibition of Wish Trees made by Women’s groups across Glasgow, coordinated by Maryhill Integration Network and North West Violence Against Women Implementation Group on display from 21st June – 21st August.

Collaborative Collage Workshop at The Burrell Collection. Women from mIN’s Oasis Women’s Group and AlbScott’s Mother Theresa Women’s Group will take part in a textile based art project inspired by a Gold Soul Guard Disc from Ghana. Thursday 21st June, 11am – 1pm.

Sighthill Solstice. Join in a colourful parade to Sighthill Stone Circle where there will be outdoor performances, followed by music, food and a global ceilidh at Sighthill Youth Centre. Later the celebrations will continue back at the stones with fire dances, tribal art and stargazing. Thursday 21st June 4.30pm till late.
